What does "E" stand for in the Children's Books section of the Library?

"E" is short for "Early Reader."

The Early Reader books are arranged on the shelf by the author's last name.

In Library Search, you'll see "Northwestern Early Reader" in the item record.  The call number will begin with the first letter of the author's last name, which tells you where the book is located on the shelf.
