Answer

"A FIC" is short for "Adolescent Fiction".  The Adolescent Fiction books are arranged on the shelf by the author's last name.

In CLICsearch, you'll see "Northwestern Adolescent Fiction" in the Location column of the record.  The call number will begin with the first letters of the author's last name, which tells you where the book is located on the shelf.

Adolescent Fiction books are designated on the shelves by "A FIC", and on the spine of the book as "A FICTION".
