Can I borrow books from other libraries?

The Berntsen Library is a part of Cooperating Libraries in Consortium, or "CLIC".  Six private colleges and universities in the Twin Cities area participate in the CLIC consortium, and students at these institutions can borrow books from libraries at any of the other schools.

Use CLICsearch to locate and request books from other CLIC libraries.

To borrow items not available from Northwestern or CLIC, the library uses the ILLiad interlibrary loan system.  This service is provided at no cost to current students, faculty, and staff.  Students should use ILLiad to request interlibrary loan items.  Please allow at least five business days for a request to be filled.

See the ILLiad LibGuide to learn more about registering for and using ILLiad, and to view helpful video tutorials.
